I did observe this behaviour with Mandrake 8.0 and DX4.1.3.
So I used the version compiled for RedHat 7 from the opendx.org site.
On Mandrake 8.1 apparently the compiled package is missing (but
the -devel one is there!), so I recompiled from the source (4.1.3-3).
Now OpenDX appears much more stable.
