I set up the install prefix to be /usr/local, and it put the dx
program in /usr/local/bin, but it put the dxexec and other programs
in /usr/local/dx/linux-bin and dx/bin. So I created symbolic links
from /usr/local/bin so that they'd be in my path. I also used ldd to
check that the programs could see all of their libraries. The result
is still the same.
Thanks for pointing out the Getting Started page. I'll go read
through that and see if it sheds any light on the problem.

Can you run the exec by itself? Try the hints on OpenDX.org's
Getting Started page. <http://www.opendx.org/started.html>.
David
I just compiled and installed DX on my RedHat 7.2 linux machine, but it dies
when I try to open a .net file. The compile and install ran without a hitch.
I ran "dx" at the command line, and got the main window. I click on the
"Edit Visual Programs.." button, and select the example1.net file mentioned
in the tutorial. The Editor window partially comes up and the app hangs for
a while. Then on the console window the following error messages appear:
timeout waiting for response from DX
connection timed out
Then an Error window pops up with the message:
Unable to connect to dxexec
The other windows go away leaving the main window as it was before. The
"Tutorial" button brings up the tutorial, so everything isn't completly dead.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
