We are looking to buy a few viz machines for our lab and are looking for
something with a decent graphics card that is well supported under Linux.

Any suggestions?

The top contenders seem to be the Matrox G550, ATI Radeon 8500, and Nvidia
Ti 4200/4400/4600

Nvidia lists drivers for Linux on their web page, but you need a kernel
mod to get the best performance (and the kernel mod revision must match
the GLX driver rev, so it could lead to upgrading problems down the road).

ATI also lists drivers for Linux but maybe doesn't support 3D
acceleration?

I've heard good things about the Matrox G450 and Linux, but then have
heard that the G550 is not as competitive performance-wise with the
others.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer -- what are you using for
your viz machine with OpenDX?
