I have finally figured out what causes this problem.
It appears that the earth and space science macros
are in an old DX file format that does not contain information
about which other macros are being referenced.
Loading the net files into DX and saving them in 4.2.0
net file format seems to solve the problem.

in my startserver script I have a line defining the DXARGS flag as:
DXARGS="-optimize memory -memory $memory -highlight off -execonly -processors
1 -modules /usr/local/dx/java/server/modules -mdf
/usr/local/dx/java/server/localmods.mdf"where localmods.mdf contains the definition of local modules. Hope this helps
