Depending on your Linux distribution you might have the Berkeley
encoder installed under the name
   ppmtompeg
it comes with the netpbm package and there is a very nice
description of the input parameter file at
   http://netpbm.sourceforge.net/doc/ppmtompeg.html#lbAF

I make mpegs in Win2000 using the Tsunami mpeg encoder.
   http://www.tmpgenc.net/
It is shareware but you can use it for mpeg 1's for free
and it does a very nice job without the endless parameter
tweaking that the Berkeley encoder requires.

Thanks for the two replies. I don't have Berkeley MPEG-1 encoder
installed in my linux box. I'll try to play it a little bit. I noticed DX can save rgb format file with multiple images. Can I
somehow split them into separate files? I know some tools to combine
multiple images into a quicktime format movie file.

The easiest thing to do is continuous saving to some format (e.g., MIFF,
the ImageMagick native format). Then use ImageMagick convert after the
network is run (i.e., convert my_movie.miff my_movie.mpg). Convert will
convert the frames to yuv and invoke the Berkeley MPEG-1 encoder, assuming
your IM installation has the appropriate delegates set up and the encoder
is in your path.

This may not lead to the best quality MPEG. That would require additional
work in how you design the content of each original frame, the desired
resolution, the encoding settings, etc. It's also only MPEG-1. A similar
process could be used with other encoders. But you would then use convert
to put the file(s) in the format appropriate for that encoder (typically
YUV).

Dear all,
I wonder if there's a way to generate MPEG files in OpenDX. Can I
use continuous saving in the save image window? Thanks.
