Thank you, that solved the problem indeed.

So then let me come back to my original question:

When I do:
   dx -edit
I get the connection-error dialog like above.

When I do:
   dx -edit -processors 1
all is fine, but when I do:
   dx -edit -processors 2
the connection-error dialog pops up again.

The BIOS on my single-CPU PC allows so-called Hyperthreading mode, which
simulates two processors. I run a FreeBSD 5.3 kernel in SMP-mode, which
indeed recognizes 2 processors.
A simular setup with FreeBSD 4.10 was never a problem, but apparently 5.3
somehow confuses OpenDX.

I report this just for the record. I have no idea whether this is an
OpenDX, or a FreeBSD issue.

Regards,
Rob.
