Dear all, I hope this finds you well.
I'm very glad to announce the publication of the Open Data Index 2013, a crowdsourced efforts aiming at establishing the state of openness of fundamental public sector data worldwide. In other words, the Index shows how keen governments are to open various datasets that have the critical potential of improving people's lives and the society. The official press release is here: http://eg.okfn.org/2013/10/open-data-index-2013-fundamental-public-sector-data-still-inavailable-in-mena/ For the first time, several Mid-Eastern countries are represented in the Index. I'm very glad about it not only because it is a premiere but also because a few people joined me trying to include the Middle East to the world map and also because I served as editor for the region which was quite of a challenge :) Thus, I want to publicly thank Mostafa Hussein (on this list, @moftasa on Twitter) and Tarek Amr (@gr33ndata) for great effort with Egypt. Last but not least, I wanted to highlight a forthcoming report (by yours truly with little help from friends) that aims at wrapping up the current state of openness *and* assess the status of access to information legislation in the Middle East, as Open Government Data and Access-to-Info are two sides of the same coin. Feel free to ask questions, play with the data (downloadable in bulk) and spread :) Best, Rayna -- "Change l'ordre du monde plutôt que tes désirs." http://de.linkedin.com/in/raynas -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "OpenEgypt" group.
