Well, like most things that question is context dependent. :-) It is important (mostly because it involves the 800 lb. gorilla called HL7) but it is also important if you plan to be able to export your data out for research. They will likely create "the" format for that. "The goal of the BRIDG Project is to produce a shared view of the dynamic and static semantics of a common domain-of-interest, specifically the domain of protocol-driven research and its associated regulatory artifacts." They are very focused on one aspect (and may even be focused on only the US?) of clinical data. IMHO - just another silo! But for now they should be relegated to the Do Not Disturb pile. The even admit that the next 12 - 18 months will be one of constant change. My $.02.
