I'm now in a pretty horrible position. We've now passed feature freeze. This freeze is pretty critical since it concerns the LTS so if things miss this, they're out for the next two years. The deadline shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
I'd "committed" to genericarm64 being a feature for this release. This is wanted by a number of Yocto Project member companies. This commitment was made months ago and has been the subject of presentations too. It relates to BSP support and there is a list of criteria for "official" platforms. That criteria is clear and has been available for a long time, particularly to the project members and in the context of discussion of genericarm64. Recently the proposed format of genericarm64 changed radically and competitively by surprise. Various maintainers/developers: * aren't interested in re-discussing things * may be on vacation, I really don't know * feel undervalued * don't want to engage in any discussion at all * feel their experience is being ignored * are really upset at the current situation I'm not naming names, the people above could easily be me for some of them (except for vacation, that clearly can't be me). I can see various sides of this and do understand people's positions. I have tried to talk to maintainers, tried to move the discussion forward and I've also tried to talk to some of the companies. The number of people on sabbatical, extended vacation and so on makes this really challenging. I'm being asked "when are you building the milestone?". I have no control over the people, the proposal or anything really, so I have no idea. I can say this really isn't fair on me. Technically, what I should do is say it didn't make the deadline and move on, it isn't included. Unfortunately, that could result in a number of companies becoming very upset with me and potentially puts my income at risk. I have been willing to try and be flexible, however the fact that nobody is talking to me, or trying to solve this is probably the thing which really annoys and frustrates me. I do a lot to make things come together despite some huge challenges and yet here, we're just left with this impasse with nobody willing to try and resolve it. I do not see a path out right now. Perhaps there are discussions happening and I just don't know about them, if that is the case you may want to give me a hint. Failing that and if there is no movement on this, I will have no other option than to rule this out the release and LTS. Cheers, Richard
