Ah, I wasn't aware of https://git.yoctoproject.org/meta-lts-mixins/ .
Not sure how that would work exactly with commit access etc.

Anyway I made further updates to
https://github.com/ernstp/meta-setuptools-backport , looking pretty good
now IMHO.
