You are right. This functionality depends on the master branch. It also reminds me that meta-java has been particularly bad in keeping up with branching of oe-core releases. I have been testing some patches to remove "meta-oe" dependency for "meta-java" layer (PACKAGECONFIG way). Will update README along that patchset. Hope that is ok.
