Eric, good suggestion. Openerp just needs to remember there are multiple use 
cases where drop shipping needs to be supported.

Use case 1
When the company X  using Openerp is requesting their supplier drop ship to 
Company X's customer on their behalf.

Use case 2
When company X's customer (e.g.  retailer A) asks company X to drop ship to 
retailer A's customer.

Both scenarios are required.

As a comparison.
Some Erp systems copy a partner's delivery  address and make it part of the 
individual sales order, receipt, purchase order record, and then allow 
overwriting the copied address to accommodate drop shipping. This avoids having 
to create a partner with thousands of addresses. And then allows administrators 
to update the address quickly to a "partners" address if needed.  

It might be good for Openerp to share its use cases for the redesign for 
comment in the community to see if scenarios like drop ship, etc are "handled" 
well or can be expanded.
