d.- OpenERP mantain a minimal backguard compatibility in future not developing gtk client, developing @THinking@ in the existency of this fork.d. We will not do that. If we decided to drop the GTK client, it's because it became an obstacle to the evolution of OpenERP. We want OpenERP to evolve quickly in order to be extremely competitive on the market and to disrupt the ERP landscape. As I said, our priority is to build the best product ever, and we don't want to put obstacles to brake this. So, if you fork the GTK client, you should be ready to adapt everything by yourself and not rely on us for this as we will only focus on improving OpenERP.
Hi Fabien,In this context, can you elaborate on the future of the XMLRPC interface, also but not exclusively regarding backwards compatibility and thus stability towards external programs?
I assume part of the anxiety of loosing the GTK client is that the web client doesn't need XMLRPC (anymore), and that it may be changed regarding compability or deprecate in terms of functionality in the near future.
I know many people use these for ETL/BI, e.g. through OOOR or the newer Object Input and Output functions.
We also rely heavily on XMLRPC for interfaces with another ERP, our production technology software, specialised lot tracking software and equipment, test bench equipment and so on.
