Title: Eric CAUDAL
I understand indeed. We have made a
module that has enhanced many limitations of the original MO in
OpenERP: as far as I remember, it should allow to start the
production without having all raw material available.
For sure we have the backflush functionality implemented in
another customer but not sure we had the opportunity to publish a
clean version.

I think OpenERP raw material consumption
could be considered backflushing
Hi Eric, I don't think that is quite right.
From all the various descriptions I have read (mainly SAP),
backflush allows the manufacturing order to proceed without
waiting for particular stock items to be available, but it is
checked and managed at the end of the operation.
So to my mind in OpenERP speak, it is a bit like having a product
treated as temporarily "Consumable" until the manufacturing order
is completed, then it is treated like a stockable product again.
From Production, Planning and Control with SAP ERP:
"
Backflush:
The BOM for the material to be produced specifies what quantities
of which components are required for production. In repetitive
manufacturing, not every goods issue is recorded at the same time
as the physical withdrawal of the material from stock. Usually,
component usage is automatically posted only when the finished
product is received (backflush).
"
From the looks of what I have read, in SAP you can set a product,
a BoM or a complete assembly as backflush.
http://www.accountingtools.com/questions-and-answers/what-is-backflush-accounting.html
"Backflush accounting is when you wait until the manufacture of a
product has been completed, and then record all of the related
issuances of inventory from stock that were required to create the
product."
Cheers
Al
