Title: Eric CAUDAL
Hi Brad,
Check the last WMS discussion/blueprint by c2c/OpenERP. I sent a mail time ago as well to add some ideas on the topics (let me know if you are interested I will forward).
Besides, in the next weeks, we should be able to publish in the community a full set of modules but more on the delivery part (probably a subset of your needs). Part of those module will probably be deprecated with the new WMS approach in OE
Best regards

We have a customer in export/import/freight forward/logistics
But the implementation is constrained by an existing system (Magaya), so is not clean interms of openerp structures

Interesting, I imagine there's many systems like Magaya that could be integrated with OpenERP (or partially replaced by OpenERP)

Since there's no standard or 'base freight modules' to build on, all integrators have to create their own modules which are usually "just enough to get their job done".

I look forward to discussing this topic.

I wonder how freight handling differs between countries. Especially truckload and less than truckload (LTL)

Hi,

I am looking for ideas on structuring a collection of modules that will be used to record the details of freight (shipments) and related logistical information.

a shipment being a collection of physical handling units (boxes, pallets, etc) with the same ship date, carrier, carrier service, origin and destination

shipments may have additional attributes such as a list of commodities (description, weight, freight class, nmfc) etc.

handling units and shipments have reference numbers, dimensions (actual and carrier adjusted), package type, zero or more carrier assigned reference numbers, SSCC/UCC-18 number and so forth.

A typical example for use would be when fulfilling an order sometimes individual boxes need to be uniquely identified (SSCC identifier) and a record is needed of which box each product-item is packed into. A carrier assigned reference number (tracking number) may be assigned to each box (handling unit) or to the shipment as a whole, and the contents information (delivery order lineitem details), carrier reference numbers and SSCC numbers may need to be transmitted via EDI to Walmart, Target and other customers.

At the moment Openerp doesn't seem to have the ability to store more than a single carrier reference number per delivery order.

Another example would be selecting a partner contact from an address book and shipping that contact some (non-inventory item), e.g. documents by priority overnight letter.

This is just a subset of what I'd like to discuss to see how best to fit these concepts into the new WMS flow in v8 (maybe v7 too)

Is anyone interested in this topic?

Thanks
