May I suggest something:
if we are using i18ned strings, it is better to write:
new_name = _("%s (copy)") % old_name
because it allows the translators to better manipulate that, as opposed to:
new_name = old_name + _(" (copy)") # please, not this
I think Right-to-Left languages may need that, too.
