Review: Needs Fixing
Your fix goes beyond the expected behavior. It shouldn't do anything when no
product is selected.
You should simply replace
v = {'product_uom': prod.uom_id.id}
if not name:
v['name'] = prod.name
by:
v = {'name': prod.name, 'product_uom': prod.uom_id.id}
