I'm just wondering why we should take care of the "None" value here ? If developer want to increase size of a field it will add/modify param size=NEW_SIZE anyway, so "size" will always be explicit. And BTW, we should also fix the "reference" case - as there is actually no way to upgrade size of "reference" field too.
