And yes, one more thing: today the dependency hell you mention already exists: some dependency modules are not compatible together: if I blindly install Magento and Prestashop, probably if I do nothing the base_sale_multichannel dependency will be incompatible. The only thing is that today it's just a silent problem. I don't see how adopting standard module management practices will make that worse.
