The end result of this change has made all incoming picking lists indistinguishable from each other, you cannot tell from which supplier you are expecting goods when looking at receiving picking list / stock moves.
Why was this so easily accepted to change the behavior in a stable release ? Also I find the reasoning flawed, the incoming pickings are after all always inbound to your stock, if you want to do drop-delivery you can specify partner addresses on the stock.move line themselves. The idea behind the address_id on the stock.picking I figure is that this is who from/to you will be sending/receiving the goods from.
