Hello, I have come back to this issue, because many times I find myself faced with this problem. I believe this is a big injustice to any user of OpenERP that does not use Euro. I believe more than half of new users, or even existing users who create a new database will not even think to do any company configuration before installing any modules. Especially so because after initialization of a new database, it will take you right to the module selection screen. Once you install the account module, it contaminates the database, because it assumes euro is the base currency and default ratio of 1.0. I strongly recommend you reconsider your position on this and apply a patch quickly.
You say that you have rid of the configuration wizard in OpenERP 6.0, but, I suggest you could do instead, when you create a new database, you are required to select a language. You could have a currency selection there since this information is created upon database anyway. This is bad practice. In the United States we do not use Euros and any other country would also have the same problem. If I choose an american chart of accounts it still uses Eur as the default currency. There is no option to select this.
