Note, that I did not yet find any way to search in the issue comments! The advanced search helps only for the description field. Please correct me, if I'm wrong and just overlooked the search for comments.
Anyway, the important thing here is the use case: Why does a user want to search in the issue tracker and what information do they want to find? My use case is the following: A company produces and sells bicycles. Every bicycle has a product number PNxxxx and a serial number SNxxxxxx. Customers call or write email, if there is an issue with the product. Some customers might complain about the wheels, others about the front light or the bell. Issues are created, but sometimes the "name" field will be (esp. if generated automatically from email) "my bicycle is broken". The detailled "description" field has probably most of the information, e.g. whether a tandem bike has been used for a downhill race and broke that way, but maybe this information is only available as a comment to the issue by another person. When there are many support tickets, one likes to search all important information as fast as possible. As the person who has to work with the tickets, I don't know whether for example a product number or serial number is mentioned in the "name" field, in the "description" or has been later added in a comment. When I just enter "PN1234" or "SN654321" and get immediately the right ticket(s), it is only a couple of key strokes to the result. Currently I have to open the advanced search, scroll through a long list of items, find "description", than I can finally enter the search term. Because the term might be in the "name" field, not in the description, I have to add this search as well. If the term is only available in the comments, I'm completely out of luck, because it is not possible to search them, as far as I know. This is missing in OpenERP, it seems. One can search in the description via the advanced search, which is not very convenient. For the comments to the issue, I couldn't find any search function.
