I think Karan has answered the gist of your questions. I'll address the
rest of it :)

One reason why some recent posts about *data loss* have gone
_unanswered_ is that these do not have anything to do with Openfiler.
Most people typically have included complaints such as a member disk of
a volume group failing, or upgrading Openfiler using CentOS packages by
hand (when it is an Openfiler distribution), using software MD RAID with
"software RAID cards" which configure the RAID features in the BIOS,
etc. These are outside the scope of Openfiler and are in the realm of
system administration. Of course, we try to answer all the questions we
can and mostly I think we've been answering all relevant questions
pertaining to Openfiler itself. Researching answers to give users for
their myriad problems takes time, and while we like our users and try to
be helpful, we are limited by the time we can spend on free support. Of
course, users can help each other on this list too (that's the reason
for a public mailing list). Some other times, our answers are just plain
delayed due to the same reasons.

Data loss is serious and I personally investigate each incident. Our
manager sets the monkey loose in the office every time. So yeah we know
when there's data loss :) Please don't think we ignore any posts about
it (although you may not get answers).

Some cases of data loss may be beyond our realm. For example, until
sometime ago, snapshots support in LVM 2.0 was completely broken and
would interfere with proper functioning of the volumes. Naturally not
being LVM developers ourselves (and this not being a small problem), we
couldn't help the problem but do everything we could to talk to the LVM
developers. We had face-to-face talks with the LVM developers too and
kept up the heat by blowing hot air on them. Many others in different
organizations did the same too.. and eventually they fixed it.

If you want first class support where you want timely guaranteed answers
_from the project team_, you should sign up for commercial support.
