Hi, I've only started playing with iSCSI, but here's what I did and it worked. First, you don't say whether you're MS iSCSI initiator is successfully connecting to the target or not. I'll assume that it is and you're just not sure what to do after that point. On XP, do the following:
iSCSI seems pretty cool, but apparently lacks one feature that I currently use on XP, which is the offline files feature. I have a laptop that I use to store "My Documents" on a central server and offline files allows me to keep a copy locally on the laptop for the times when I'm away from home. I was hoping to be able to do the same for the iSCSI disk, but don't seem to be able to. I'm sure that's not an iSCSI limitation, rather a Windows limitation.
I suspect that iSCSI would be much better than a SAMBA share for environments in which you're always connected to the server. In my case, the lack of the offline files feature will probably prevent me from fully utilizing iSCSI, but it's been fun to play with.
Hope that helps. While I'm not an expert, I was able to make that much work... :) I have a Window XP sp2, installed the MS ISCSI initiator 2.0, I have a Openfiler server I have created a volume(only) using pvcreate then created a volume group using vgcreate..
At this point I haven't anything else, I'm in a enviroment that don't have a Windows domain, only a workgroup so this Windows xp pc will be stand alone, so my question is: what are the steps to follow to setup this WIndows xp pc to connect and use a volume group on the openfiler server?

- Start the Computer Management application "Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management"
- Start the Disk Manager module. You should see a new volume listed in the disk manager display
- You should see a new dynamic disk (i.e. Disk1 or Diskx, etc)
- Create a new volume on that disk.
- Assign a drive letter and format the disk, etc.
