That is, an appliance that sits in front of a hodge-podge of legacy storage systems (e.g. Windows based file server with file-level access to storage via CIFS, a Terrastation box, a Linux box sharing some software-raided ata disks via Samba/CIFS) and publishes shares and virtual servers to the network (front end) while storing all that data on the aggregated servers (back end). I would be seriously interested in any fledgling developments surrounding this. I suppose all that would really be needed is the VFS driver for the "hodge-podge" backend. Not trivial, but would capitalize on all the hard work and solidity of OF. Just a thought...
