Gents,
Could you please let me know if the following logic is flawed?
Currently, we have Openfiler (2.2). There is a 800GB iSCSI Volume
which is being used by ESX server 3.5.
All the VMs live on this iSCSI export.
There is 1.6TB unallocated on the same volume on Openfiler at the
moment.
How would you recommend backing up this Volume? Would it make
sense to create snapshots of this iSCSI volume, and do backups via lvm?
In essence, do the following:
"dd if=/dev/vg1/iSCSIsnapshot of=/dev/blah" /blah/ being some
other cheap storage.
Yes that's perfectly workable. I've been thinking of adding support in
the GUI (because the CLI tools provide this functionality) of
specifying the physical volume path for the snapshot to reside on. This
basically means you don't have to worry about that second step for
backing up onto some tertiary storage (the specified physical volume
could be accessed via iSCSI and reside at some remote location).
R.
THANKS!
Vasiliy
