After some hunting around I found the VT quad cards are supported by the igb driver, which is now in the latest kernel. Once I unpinned the kernel in conary and updated it I was able to reboot and load the driver.
I have also just noticed the final release of 2.3 which means I get stable bonding, too. Hooray!
