Hello
I have moved one more step forward: download AsteriskNOW image cd, which is
also based on the same distribution (rPath) as OF.
Installation is smoth (no stop with apt_piix).
>From this point on I guess that somethin is missing from OF distribution. It
always stops when system starts to
inserted /tmp/ata_piix.ko
Can somebody please suggest how to solve this.

Thanks, but CentOS is not Openfiler. OF is based on rPAth, a different
distro. Could be that things are different. Maybe there is a driver
missing you need. I'd suggest asking the folks at rPath and/or try their
mailinglists/forum. The hardware you use is quite mainstream, so I cant
imagine that the problem lies there.
