Please correct me if I'm wrong, but CIMOM is part of a monitoring /
management framework that is coordinated by the DMTF (Distributed
Management Task Force -- http://www.dmtf.org)
I have limited experience with WBEM / CIMOM / CIM and the other
associated acronyms. However, VMware has gone the route of CIMOM /
CIM with their virtualization products, ESX and ESXi. The most common
Linux-based software I've seen for this is http://www.openpegasus.org/

Web-Based Enterprise Management
Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) is a set of systems management
and Internet standard technologies developed to unify the management
of distributed computing environments. Other system management
approaches are remote shells, proprietary solutions and network
management adoptations (like SNMP). WBEM is based on DMTF open
standards: CIM infrastructure and schema, CIM-XML and CIM operations
over HTTP.
