You might also want to look at using sFlow for traffic measurement. Many OpenFlow switches support sFlow for traffic monitoring (e.g. HP, NEC, OVS, etc.). Using sFlow as the measurement technology saves TCAM space (sFlow doesn't require any) and takes pressure off the OpenFlow controller since it no longer needs to poll to get real-time traffic information.
