Well this question should really be in the mininet mailing list, nevertheless the same commands as you executed works for me on Mininet 2.0.0 and Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and all the three xterms(h1,h2,h3) opens up! (with DISPLAY set as :0 itself).
