Hi guys,

I am using Reference OpenFlow software switches in my testbed. Today I
decided to test these switches in terms of throughput. That's
important for me because I want to evaluate application that I am
developing. In my test I used only one switch connected to POX
controller (l2_learning script). I am very supprised with results I
got. Switch couldn't handle more than 11 Mbit/s.

Reference OF switch is installed on PC with the following characteristics:

Prcessor: CPU1 Intel Pentium 4, 3 GHz
                   CPU2 Intel Pentium 4, 3 GHz
RaM: 1 GB
3x1Gbps NICs

I generated only one taffic stream with BlueLight BlueScoPe device.
Transmitting port was connected to one NIC and receiving port on other
NIC. When I generated more than 11 Mbit/s problems arised. I used
Gnome System Monitor tool to see CPU usage in that situation and CPU1
was at 65 % and CPU2 at 42%. Memory wasn't problem neither.

I read some paper where authors performed experiment with OF reference
software switches, and achieve 93 Mbit/s throughput on PC with 2x100
Mbit/s NICs. Their PC had Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz processor and 3GB
RAM.

Do you have any idea why I am getting such bad results?

I will appreciate any help or advice!
