I have some interest in building a OpenFlow controller / client, specifically to target OpenVirtualSwitch. I'm somewhat curious, why did the Open Network Foundation decide to implement their own serialization format, and transport, as opposed to using an existing off the shelf transport like Protocol Buffers? Is there any reason to not move to a standard like length-prefixed Protocol Buffers?
