You'd have to make sure the license allowed redistribution of the font in a different format and under the same name, of course. Note also that all hinting is lost, as well as opentype tables... In IE, the Adobe SVg viewer (I think unsupported now) does/did support CFF OpenType fonts embedded in SVG files, though. And of course one could use EOT for preview in IE...
