I'm not sure what is meant by the "kernel".  We are using the FreeBSD 
license which is one
of those on the OpenSource site for our various components.   We don't have 
a "kernel" unless
one calls the COAS server the kernel.  But there is an authentication 
module, a Person Identification module and a few others, too.  The are 
replaceable with other systems which implement the same interfaces.
