Alvin,

I'm new to the openhealth list-serve, so apologies if I'm saying things you
guys already know.

I think you will find the Object Management Group (OMG) in general, and
CORBAmed in particular, a target rich environment for harvesting previous OO
work in the health care domain. Also, it is a great place to learn lessons
others have already learned, learn what commercial products are available,
and influence the course and priority of specifications/standards (which
eventually become ISO standards) for Health Care Domain Common Services.
Some examples of adopted specifications include Person Identification
Service, Clinical Observation Access Service, and Terminology Query Service.
You can get some sense of what OMG and CORBAmed do from a visit to the
omg.org webpages. As I wrote earlier today, a better idea is to watch OMG
and CORBAmed in action at a technical committee meeting. I'm in an airport,
on the way to one in Mesa, AZ now (again, info at omg.org). Next one is in
March, Denver, CO. BTW, Thomas Beale will be in Mesa this week, providing
us with a presentation on the GEHR architecture.

Seems to me that we (openhealth and CORBAmed) have potential for a great
deal of synergy. Historically, CORBAmed has been technically heavy. While
we always need more technical involvement, we are now actively seeking more
involvement from healthcare information stakeholders (in the IOM CPR study
sense) - clinicians, administrators, educators, researchers, and patients.
Interested?

Best regards,
Scott
