Bloody oath it is! Takes significantly more time to set it up, but you get 
your time back, big time, with huge interests. Not only that, but you also 
keep your system stable, no broken dependenvies. The Debian packaging system 
with apt-get is just unbelievable.

This is the reason too why no vendor wants to pick it up - it makes vendors 
completely obsolete.
