Hello Greg,
The best case example that I see of SME doing coding tasks is what Thomas
Beale and the GEHR project seem to be trying to do.
http://www.deepthought.com.au/it/archetypes.html The paper on Archetypes
keeps getting better and better after each revision. Some day I hope that
there is a paper of the same quality as some of Eric Raymond's work and
maybe then I can show it to my management.
Wayne's point of wondering if physicians are going to be interested in
pursuing the time and effort commitments necessary to design, build,
implement and support a major clinical information system are well founded.
We have a few clinicians that want some better tools but they are seemingly
not interested in the hassle that designing new tools bring. I would like
to have a popular uprising, but most of the physicans don't seem to care too
much as long as their desires are catered to.
