>From a data model (storage) point of view it is irrelevant.  Any
data item is, 'at an instance in time'.
For instance, a heart rate monitor sense a heartbeat and compares
it to it's internal sample rate.  How many clock pulses between
heart beats yields Beats/Minute. It only gives us the appearance
of continuous data.

The logic of any given application determines what to do with the
data.  In one application I might only want the maximum heart
rate in a given period. In another I may want to graph a
time-series.
