To get you started, Can you tell me what Operating system you run? That we we can decide on an IRC client. I think th best one for a new user would be called Xchat, at www.xchat.org. The reason i choose an IRC server instead of the a messenger or IM is that IRC is much more flexible and this particular group that our channel is located on, supports opensource software. I hope that clears things up, but to get you started i would download and install xchat and choose the 'irc.openprojects.net' irc server.
