Actually, accountability comes in from each company selling the
software. EG: I could purchase service agreements with either Red Hat or SuSE.
Either one would then be accountable to me. However, I can choose which I wish
to work with. This increases accountability.
OTOH,
if I chose to use Microsoft's software, I could hold only Microsoft
"accountable" for it. Since even the US government seems unable to hold them
accountable, I'm essentially left with no accountable body to work
with.
