Hi all I'm new around here (previous lurker), and haven't been receiving the list for a while so please excuse me if this has been discussed.
In British Columbia there is very little in the way of EMR's being utilised in primary care. Currently there is some Federal funding available for the development Primary Care. It looks like a systems will be purchased for practices but that the practices will need to source there own system. Unfortunately, the likelihood is that the proprietary software suppliers will get this business because no-one is informing them. More unfortunately for them is that after the setup year or two there is unlikely to be any/significant funding for IT in the practices. Thus the system creates vendor lock - and the practices then have to find the funds to maintain this. BC is a pretty much a green field site - it would be great to see the right decisions made So, two questions -firstly has anyone got any knowledge of BC healthcare/those who run it that would make supportive contacts? Secondly, any suggestions for strategies to get this into both admin and physician's consciousness (I have been writing a few letters etc)?
