Dear Open Source EMR Devotees, Last year I was invited to do a couple of presentations at the American College of Physicians Annual Scientific session in San Diego. I was ably assisted by Dr. David Chan from McMaster with the OSCAR project. We did a comparison of OSCAR, VISTA and TORCH and a more in-depth demonstration of the use of OSCAR. The sessions were well received - (SRO) and have prompted another invitation. David was a very good teaching partner and I am tempted to invite him again, but wondered if others would like to widen the exposure to yet another FOSS EMR. I have asked David to comment on the list also to inform the discussion.
I have suggested that the invitee for my session also be invited to a separate session billed as an EMR "shoot-out" with a comparison (timed I think) of entering a case into the software to be compared to other presumably commercial systems. I am waiting to see if ACP wants to put a FOSS EMR up against a commercial system or systems. Travel is to New Orleans O/A 4/22-24, 2004 with travel, lodging, per-diem and a teaching stipend paid by ACP. So the question is who has a spiffy portable EMR, can wax eloquent in a class room demonstration as well as perform under pressure to get data into the system? We would be prejudiced toward a physician, but wouldn't rule out other clinically savvy types. The criteria for selection are: be able to bring, set up, explain and use a highly functional FOSS EMR past presentations to large audiences, preferably on a national scale. easy to work with, not blindly devoted to their system understand how to compare and contrast software including philosophy, operating system, standards, platform and user interface able to tolerate large quantities of fine food and beverage Please reply to the list for discussion of why you and yours would best represent FOSS EMR and the OpenHealth List.
