This is another is what I would call a grass roots movement to better clinical information systems.

I wonder if you could provide an updated assessement on how the grass roots movements and FLOSS are faring under the new NHS spending programme.

I wonder about this because I see that IDX (note, I have a business connection with IDX as we are a customer of theirs), iSoft and CMWHealthcare are largely splitting the health record part of the 5.5 billion pound NHS IT initiative.

Both IDX and iSoft deliver Microsoft based (entangled would be a better word) client/server records systems and CMWHealth as part of the National Spine program will integrate local records into a national record using XML and HL7.

I further note UCL Trust hospitals are getting the IDX clincal system, LastWord. Since the UCL is one of the locii of GEHR,SYNAPSES and OpenEHR work, it would appear that all of those have been shut out going forward with NHS clinical record systems? Even SYNAPSES would could have provided the National Spine was shut out in favor of XML/HL7.
