Well, I don't really want to say very much more on this topic. It's polarizing to the FOSS community in much the same way as the GPL is polarizing.
In both cases, the root of the polarization have to do with economic inequity.
One can only hope that after the Microsoft double-click patent (yes indeedy folks, Microsoft has just been awarded a patent covering the double-click to activate an action!) the complete and total absurdity of the situation will assert itself. I fear not.
The one thing I have learned is that those of sitting in privleged western world tend to make our arguments based on fundamental beliefs or principles. Well and good, but a large of the world, and the FOSS movement in general has to make it's living based on pragmatic realities. If western patents spread worldwide, forcing by way of bi-lateral treaties, that IP laws be enforced by the local police, then I can see a pragmatic outcome.
If this happens, I think we will all be able to see the pragmatic outcome televised for our viewing discomfort. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org
