<http://www.ihealthbeat.org/content/graphics/Power.jpg>The National Alliance for Health Information Technology <http://www.hospitalconnect.com/nahit/about.html> on Monday announced that it has opened its online health information technology standards directory at no cost to the public.   <http://www.ihealthbeat.org/images/spacer.gif>

NAHIT in April launched a beta version of the directory for members only, and has since expanded the resource to include 850 voluntary and mandatory standards and links to more than 200 standards development organizations. The organization is also developing members-only content, which will include detailed summaries and evaluations of standards (NAHIT press release, 6/7).

Dr. Clement McDonald, director of the
Regenstrief Institute <http://www.regenstrief.org/>, said that the registry's large number of standards are more than most physicians will find useful. Rod Piechowski, NAHIT's standards program manager, said the group plans to add content explaining the standards' relevance. The registry, which has been in development for two years, is still not completed, Piechowski said (Conn, Modern Physician, 6/7).

NAHIT member
Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems <http://www.jjhcs.com/> will sponsor the directory, underwriting maintenance and expansion costs for two years (NAHIT press release, 6/7).   <http://www.ihealthbeat.org/images/spacer.gif>
