CALL FOR PAPERS

        The Use of OSS and ODF in Health and Medical Systems

               Jun 22-23, 2006, Salt Lake City, Utah

                       Special Track at the
19th IEEE International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems

The support of Open Source Software (OSS) and Open Document Formats
(ODF) in academic, governmental and business organizations has been
continuously increasing over the last couple of years. However, the
acceptance in the healthcare community is still low and adoption slow.
This is often caused by misconceptions about OSS and ODF in relation to
important issues such as software reliability and support, data security
and legal liability. Healthcare IT solutions are available under OSS and
ODF licenses, including Lab and EHR appliations, for small, medium and
large clinical institutions.

As part of the IEEE symposium on CBMS, the Use of Open Source Software
and Open Document Formats in Health and Medical Systems track invites
original and high quality submissions addressing all aspects of OSS and
ODF applications in the medical context. The topics of special interest
include, but are not restricted to, the use of OSS and ODF in the
following fields:

   * Bioinformatics
   * Biomedical Knowledge Management
   * Biomedical Ontologies
   * Biosurveillance and Disease Tracking
   * Community Building with OSS in Healthcare
   * Computerised Clinical Guidelines
   * Decision Support Systems
   * Drug and Interaction Databases
   * Electronic Health Record Systems
   * Health Care Applications for Mobile Devices
   * Health Information Systems
   * Laboratory Systems
   * Medical Imaging
   * Personal Health Records
   * Public Health Care Applications
   * Telehealth

Unlike workshops, where position papers and reports on initial and
intended work are appropriate, papers selected for a special track
should report on significant unpublished work suitable for publication
as a conference paper and must not be simultaneously submitted or under
review for any other workshop, conference or journal. Any paper found to
be in violation of these rules will be rejected without review. More
information about the symposium, registration fees and venue can be
found on the CBMS 2006 Website.
