Edward,

I share your curiousity about the group's perspective on IHE. My
general perspective on it is that IHE seems to be a very friendly
environment for large proprietary enterprises, and tends to be
missing participation from the open source side of the house. I've
visited the IHE Interoperability Showcase at the past two HIMSS
shows, and will be there next week in New Orleans. With the
exception of participation by Bill Lober and CIRG team from
University of Washington, I can't recall seeing much open source
participation in IHE. True, IBM and Eclipse and the OHF are in
there, but I still don't see the relevance of IHE to the rank and
file non-enterprise health care facility. In general, my approach
to IHE (= interoperability) is similar to my approach to TEPR (=
adoption of EHR) -- if after 23 years of preaching EHR adoption we
are still at only 10% adoption by the health care sector, then
clearly we have not discovered the compelling set of features and
solutions that adapt to the real world needs of health care
facilities. Maybe this next week in New Orleans will be different.

With best regards,
