I finally found out where it hung:

In threaded.c you can find the function oh_wake_event_thread()
which calls g_cond_broadcast(). Unfortunatly this function never
returns but breaks the daemon.

I took out the call to g_cond_broadcast() for a try and the daemon
seemed to continue working properly. I must admit that I have a very
bad feeg about doing this. At least I can continue testing my GUI
application ;-)
