This was prompted by Jason's recent post, but has also been on my list
for a while.
Situation: The OpenIPMI plugin wasn't being actively supported for
quite some time, and has fallen into disrepair. During the first half
of 2007, I volunteered to try to support it, but have found that I have
neither the IPMI background nor enough suitable IPMI-based equipment to
do so.
I see a few choices:
1. Invite someone else to take over support of the OpenIPMI plugin.
2. Collect a list of people who use it, and try to support it as a
group.
3. Drop the OpenIPMI plugin from the OpenHPI source tree.
These are roughly in order of preference. Do people see other
alternatives?
If someone with the right background and equipment wants to work on
this, please let us know. In order to understand what would be
involved, please see the current SourceForge issue list
(https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=532251&group_id=71730&func=browse),
looking at those assigned to myself (sutula). Failing that, I'd like to
proceed with choice #2.
If you use or otherwise care about the OpenIPMI plugin, please post (or
e-mail me directly) the following:
A. What hardware are you using with this plugin?
B. What is your current OpenHPI version? Are you able to run with
the current release (2.10.1)?
C. Can you test new versions and development releases?
D. Are you able to debug issues with your hardware and submit
OpenHPI patches?
What I will do is collect this information and summarize it, probably on
the OpenHPI wiki (http://www.openhpi.org). From this, we'll have a list
of hardware that should work, and we may be able to make progress on the
current list of bugs.
Thanks much,
